WHAT ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY ASPECTS WITHIN BDSM?

BDSM is multifaceted and like any other set of activities in life there are associated risks. There are no activities in life that you can complete which are risk free but you can always manage risk and BDSM is no different. With common sense and sensible management of risk BDSM can be a joy and for some people a lifestyle but without management of risk it can be dangerous and threatening.

Within this series of blogs we will aim to look at some of the more common areas of concern associated with BDSM activities and we will add sections on a regular basis.

Before delving too deeply into any particular activity within BDSM, which we will do later, there are a few basic s which will cover al lot of risks:-

  • A good dollop of common sense will allow you to manage most BDSM risk, as with everyday life and risks

  • If you are dominant take responsibility for your actions and the risks associated with them

  • If you are submissive remember you still have your limits and you need to consider what you are giving someone permission to do, submissives do not simply need to do everything they are told to do

  • Whoever you are, communicate!

BDSM does involve a consensual exchange of power between two or more individuals, if any proposed activity does not sound or feel like it is consensual or safe do not do it.

We will now move on to cover various subjects with updates posted every few days. No blog can ever cover every aspect of BDSM and every aspect of risk but we will try to cover the main activities and the risks associated with them. Please feel free to leave comments or pass your own advice regarding risk through the comments section of this blog.
